Set of Three 7" Framed record paintings created by Washington Center students.

Washington Center is a separate school that serves students ages 3-21 with severe or profound intellectual disabilities.  Many of these students have concurrent challenges such as autism, blindness, deafness, or physical disabilities.  The students assisted with the creation of the record paintings by making choices with the size of records, colors used, and with moving the art to get the paint to flow.  Thank you for supporting their artistic growth.

In the adapted art class, the students are encouraged to participate in the art making process by using a variety of instructional methods that are adapted to meet the diverse abilities of each student. Materials and art making tools may be modified for accessibility.  The students create the artwork using tools like switch activated scissors, adapted brushes, sponges, and even their fingers.  Communication is key when making choices and giving input, so they use picture/tactile symbols and communication devices.
